High-Quality Curriculum and Social-Emotional Support

At IDYL, we focus on students as individuals and support growth as a whole person. We provide high-quality education with incredible teachers and support staff. Students graduate from The IDYl Charter School ready for the transition to high school.

Grade Levels (K-8)

The structure of our curriculum is focused on supporting the whole child. The students day starts with our Social Emotional Learning focus. Each week, the teachers are provided with a targeted focus on a social emotional topic. There are daily activities to help students learn how to process their big emotions.

In ELA and Math, our curriculum is structured in a way that speaks to the teaching of grade-level standards and supports the closing of students’ learning gaps. Whole group is 30-45 minutes of teacher-led instruction following the I do, We do, You do strategy. Whole group’s focus is on the student’s current grade level. We use the HMH curriculum in K-2 and the Ready Curriculum in 3rd-8th grade. Small group is 45-60 minutes long. The focus during this time period is to support the closing of student learning gaps through intentional and direct instruction in groups of 3-5 students at a time. Students are clustered according to need, and skill.

K-8 uses McGraw Hill to enrich their Social Studies lessons. K-5 uses Mystery Science and 5-8 uses NC Science Standard, IXL, and Quizziz. Teachers use this time to expose students to worldwide events, real-life experiences, hands-on activities, and interests. We build in project-based learning through Social Studies and Science activities. IDYL prides ourselves on our quarterly annual activities such as the STEAM fair, Wax Museum, 100’s Day Celebrations, etc. We also make conscious efforts to incorporate multicultural holidays and celebrations throughout our lessons and activities.
